Back in December, Mozilla announced that it would release its popular Firefox web browser for iOS.
If you've been looking forward to this moment, then there is good news for you – Mozilla has begun releasing a pre-release version of its Firefox browser for iPhone and iPad for testing. The browser is currently only available in New Zealand.
The company says on its blog that it only released the app in one country to gather feedback:
Our goal is to create a great browsing experience for iOS with Firefox. With this first public preview we will be collecting feedback in one country, before we extend availability to get feedback in a few more countries prior to a full public launch.
Mozilla plans to collect feedback on features such as smart search, which provides search results and search engine choices. They will also watch reviews about Firefox Accounts. Firefox Account will allow access through iOS devices to Firefox browser history, passwords and tabs used on the computer, making switching between mobile and desktop devices comfortable and convenient.
The Firefox Preview includes a feature called Visual Tabs, which is “an intuitive way to keep track of your open tabs.”
Firefox browser won't be the first app from Mozilla in App Store. Mozilla released Firefox Home in 2010. Firefox Home gives users iPhone quick access to history, open tabs, and bookmarks of the Firefox desktop browser. However, Mozilla removed the app from App Store in 2012, focusing its resources on other projects.
The company has not announced when they plan to release a public release. If you would like to know when the Firefox browser for iOS becomes available in your country, you can register here.
