TOR is free software that aims to ensure your online privacy by browsing the web anonymously. Your traffic gets distorted as it passes through multiple TOR servers, and thus your IP address changes. Usually TOR is used on computers, but you can use a browser with TOR on your iPhone or iPad.
In this article, we will share how to quickly and easily access TOR on iOS from the third party Onion Browser app. It's free, but not perfect and not very user-friendly (the updated version is now in beta testing). The Onion Browser app allows you to use TOR on iOS and guarantees anonymous web browsing.
How to use TOR on iPhone and iPad via Onion Browser
You will need one of the latest versions iOS and internet access. Onion Browser can be downloaded at App Store. Then proceed as follows:
- Launch the Onion Browser app and select 'Connect to TOR' at startup.
- The TOR installation will begin. After the installation is complete, a browser window will appear informing you that you have successfully connected to the TOR network.
- When the connection to TOR is complete, you can browse the web as usual in your Onion browser.
As with all TOR browsers, Onion Browser is missing some features and functionality, and sites may not display correctly. The reason for this is to eliminate the possibility of data or IP leakage, so it is necessary to disable some functions.
Please note that visiting sites through TOR will be slow as traffic travels around the world in an attempt to ensure your anonymity. Speed reductions and lags occur in all TOR browsers, not just Onion.
You can request a new IP at any time, but for this you may need to close the application and start it again.
The Onion Browser application is not very user-friendly. limited by structure iOS, but if you just need a different IP to visit some pages, the browser will do the trick. The new version is currently in beta testing and should be out soon.
