Tips for preparing your iPhone or iPad for release iOS 11

#1. Check if your device will support iOS 11

iOS 11 is supported on the following devices:

  • iPhone X, iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone SE, iPhone 5s
  • 12.9 iPad Pro 2nd generation, 12.9 iPad Pro 1st generation, 10.5 iPad Pro, 9.7 iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 5th generation, iPad mini 4, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 2
  • iPod Touch 6th generation

# 2. Remove unused applications

The release of an OS update is a good reason to review your installed applications and remove those that you rarely use. You can always delete them right on the main screen, but there is another way: Settings> General> Storage and iCloud> Manage. There you can select the application you do not want and click 'uninstall'. You can see how much space the apps are taking up and delete at least the largest ones.

# 3. Free up memory

Upgrading iOS 11 will take at least 2GB of free memory, so if your iPhone or iPad runs out of memory, you need to free it. This can be done by deleting all unnecessary files. Free up at least 2.5GB of memory just in case.

#4. Update all apps

The developers have also prepared their applications for iOS 11. Make sure to update them to fully enjoy all the new features of iOS 11, including ARKit.

Please note that 32-bit applications are not compatible with iOS 11, so read the instructions below.

#five. Update iTunes

If you plan to install iOS 11 via iTunes, you will need the latest version of the program, iTunes 12.7. Don't forget that Apple has removed the App Store section from iTunes 12.7

# 6. Back up your device

Making a copy of your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch is always a good idea before installing an update. If you do this using iTunes, the copy will also store security information like passwords, etc.

You can back up your device using iTunes or iCloud. If you don't know how to do this, read the instructions below.

  • How to back up to iPhone and iPad
  • How to back up iPhone or iPad to an external hard drive

We recommend the iTunes method as this will allow you to roll back to iOS 10.3.3 if needed.

# 7. Jailbreak

If you have a jailbreak installed and you cannot live without your favorite applications and tweaks, then we do not recommend that you upgrade to iOS 11 until the jailbreak is released for this version of the system. You can read more about when this might happen below.

#8. Check the release time iOS 11

Most likely Apple will issue iOS 11 between 20:00 and 23:00 Moscow time. Since iOS 4 to 2010, the company has always released major OS updates around this time. If you don't know what time it is in your time zone, we will help you.

  • Release time iOS 11 according to your time zone

#nine. Installation iOS 11

The update iOS 11 will be available in iTunes and also in Settings in Software Update.

You can update your device through iTunes by connecting it to your computer. If you plan to install a jailbreak in the future, use this method. We will post direct links when they become available.

If you already have a jailbreak installed, the over-the-air update will not be available. This is even a plus if you do not want to install the update, but if you still want to, you will have to recover through iTunes.

After completing all the steps listed above, you should be ready to download and install iOS 11 with all its new features.
