Apple has officially released updates iOS 11.2.6, watchOS 4.2.3, tvOS 11.2.6, and macOS 10.13.3 for all supported devices. The main purpose of these updates is to fix a bug of Messages and other messenger applications called Telegu, which was discovered last week.
In the postscript to updates Apple, she explained what exactly changed in the new versions. Unlike previous releases, this one did not go through beta testing. In iOS 11.2.5 Apple I discovered an issue that was already fixed in beta versions iOS 11.3 and decided to release an additional update to protect users until public release iOS 11.3.
The subscription to update iOS 11.2.6 looks like this:
iOS 11.2.6 fixes bugs in iPhone and iPad, including the following:
– Fixed a bug due to which the input of some sequences of characters could lead to program crashes.
– Fixed a bug due to which some third-party programs could not connect with external accessories.
Apple reacted very quickly and focused on solving the problem, which is always a good thing. Update iOS 11.2.6 is available for: iPhone 5s and newer, iPad Air and newer, iPod touch 6th generation.
It is unlikely that many owners of Apple Watch, Apple TV or Mac have encountered the bug. It occurs when a message arrives at the device with a special symbol of the Telugu language (typical for India).
The bug works not only in Messages, but also in third-party messengers, and because of it, applications crash and stop working properly. In some cases, the entire system stopped working and the device had to be reset.
When the bug was first discovered, Apple reported that it had already been fixed in beta versions iOS 11.3. However, the public release will not take place so soon, in connection with which the company had to release iOS 11.2.6 with a bug patch. Then updates were released for other systems, and in all the problem was resolved. By installing updates, you will protect yourself from the 'Telugu' bug.
Apple might not release such minor updates, but the company wants to make sure that users won't have any problems using instant messengers. Messaging apps, WhatsApp, WeChat, and Facebook Messenger are some of the most popular apps, so a large number of users could be affected by the bug.
If you have Apple Watch of any model, you can install the watchOS 4.2.3 update via a dedicated app on your smartphone. The watch needs to be charged at least 50% and connected to a charger. Mac owners can install the update through Mac App Store and Apple TV through Preferences. If you have iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, go to Settings> General> Software Update to install the update.
