Kuo: 'Notch Display' will be added to iPhone 8 instead of fingerprint scanner

In the latest investor statement, KGI analyst Min-Chi Kuo shared his predictions about the upcoming release iPhone Apple. The analyst believes that Apple will release three new versions this year iPhone, one with a 5.2-inch screen, new design and OLED – display.

iPhone - 8 - iPhone - 7-size

The usable screen area iPhone will be 5.2 inches, although the entire display will be about 5.8 inches. This is due to the fact that the bottom of the screen will be allocated to the functional area with the Home button on the screen.

Despite some intriguing promises to add a fingerprint scanner, Kuo says there is a low chance of this feature appearing in iPhone 8. He says that Touch ID will be completely absent from iPhone 8. but Apple makes up for it with the introduction of 3D facial recognition technology.

In addition, it is expected to release two versions iPhone with a 4.7-inch screen and a 5.5-inch LCD screen and design similar to the existing ones iPhone.

iPhone 8 c OLED – the display will become the highlight of the line iPhone from Apple this year. It will be distinguished by a large screen in relation to existing smartphones when -or available on the market thanks to the “notch display” design. Apple will also equip iPhone with a speaker volume setting to create the best stereo effect.

All three versions iPhone will be similar in all other functions. They will be equipped with a Lightning port, although there will also be built-in USB-C and a fast charging IC. Three models will only be available with 64GB and 256GB of storage, and while the 4.7-inch iPhone will come with 2GB of RAM, the other two will come with 3GB of storage. This is due to the dual rear camera setup in the other two versions.

Finally, the analyst expects Apple to increase production iPhone with LCD from August-September, while production OLED will increase production for iPhone will start from October-November. This is likely due to the difficulty of producing certain components for iPhone 8. Kuo believes that because of this, Apple will be able to present all three models iPhone 8 in September. but the screen for iPhone 8 will go on sale later. The phone will be in short supply for the first few weeks, with demand expected to catch up with supply only in the first half of 2018.

Below are all of the statements Kuo made in his speech:

1: Apple will release 3 models iPhone in the second half of 2017, including iPhone with a new design with 5.2 “(or 5.8” screens depending on definition of screen size in use) iPhone with OLED – display and LCD models, including 4.7 “and 5.5” (similar in design to already existing models)

2: iPhone with OLED – the display will get a full screen design with a large screen in relation to existing smartphones ever presented (thanks to the notch display design), model with OLED – The display will come with a touch-sensitive Home button, but the Home button will not be equipped with fingerprint recognition.

3: iPhone with OLED – the display will support 3D function to recognize faces and improve the quality of selfies.

4: iPhone with OLED -display and iPhone with 5.5-inch LCD will go on sale with 3GB RAM (for Dual-cameras), while while the 4.7-inch version will only have 2GB of RAM (for one camera)

5: Three new models will only be available with 64GB and 256GB of storage.

6: All three new models will be equipped with a Lightning port, but there will also be built-in USB-C to power the PC to improve performance.

7: The output power of the receiver and speaker from iPhone with OLED – the display will be improved in order to create a high quality stereo effect.

8: In order to maintain an exclusive image, we believe that iPhone with OLED – display will be released in fewer color variations than iPhone with LCD.

9: We assume that sales of iPhone with OLED screens and iPhone with LCD screen will increase in October-November and August-September respectively. “To optimize the advertising effect, we think that Apple can present three models at the same time in September, however, the launch dates iPhone with OLED – the screen may lag behind launch dates iPhone with an LCD screen, and the supply shortage may not improve until the first half of 2018.

10: We forecast shipments of the three new models to be 80-85 million units in equal proportions for LCD and OLED models in 2017.

It's worth noting that Kuo claims Apple will not add fingerprint recognition, which contradicts other recent announcements. According to early reports the fingerprint scanner will not be ready in time, a recent data breach suggested that vendors Apple have already resolved all of the cost issues. While others argue that since the fingerprint scanner will not be ready in time, it will instead have a 3D Touch sensor installed in the back of the device.

It seems unlikely that Apple will really ditch the fingerprint scanner feature entirely on the iPhone 8 with OLED display as users are already used to it.
