After months of various rumors Apple finally presented iPhone X, timed to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the line iPhone. Technically, iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus are upgrades to last year's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, and iPhone X is the only new model this year.
The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus also have a lot of new features, but with iPhone X Apple it came off completely. The phone contains several cutting-edge technologies that will only appear on other smartphones in a year.
iPhone X is made entirely of glass and its bezels are stainless steel. The frames have cutouts for the antennas. The use of glass and steel made iPhone X more premium than last year's iPhone 7. As with iPhone 8, glass on iPhone X will the most durable of all smartphones.
However, the main thing in the design iPhone X is a 5.8-inch bezelless OLED display. We've seen quite a few bezel-less displays before, but the iPhone X highlights a notch at the top that houses the various sensors.
Despite such a large display, Apple managed to add stereo speakers to iPhone X. As with iPhone 7, the speaker at the top serves as an additional main speaker at the bottom.
iPhone X will continue to be dust and waterproof. Apple upgraded IP certification to IP68.
iPhone X will be available in Space Gray and Silver colors.
Super Retina display
The main difference iPhone X – 5.8-inch OLED – display. Its resolution is 1125 × 2436, and due to the lack of bezels, the phone looks very futuristic. OLED – Displays use less power and have better contrast. And in general, such a display is more pleasant to look at than LCD.
If the panel OLED isn't enough for you, Apple also debuted with True Tone technology. She first appeared on the 9.7-inch iPad Pro. With it, the display will be able to automatically adjust the brightness to the lighting.
The display supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision, and has a contrast ratio of 1000: 1. The phone will also have 3D Touch and wake-up on tap function.
A11 processor and memory
iPhone X will have a 6-core A11 processor that can be individually controlled by various applications and parts of the system. Four cores will be energy efficient while the other two will run at full capacity. The new processor is 25 percent faster than the A10 processor and 70 percent faster in multitasking.
iPhone X will have 3GB of RAM. It will be available in 128GB and 256GB variants.
Touch ID technology is dead, at least this year. iPhone X will have a new type of biometric authentication – Face ID. The phone has a variety of notch sensors that can read the depth of a user's face. The system will be difficult to deceive, which was possible on many devices Android.
Apple says that iPhone X will be blocked until you pick it up and look at it. The TrueDepth system will be able to create a mathematical model of your face and recognize it in the future.
Face ID will not work when you are not looking at iPhone. Like Touch ID, all Face ID information will be protected in the A11 bionic processor.
In addition to unblocking, Face ID can be used for Apple Pay, purchases App Store, and autofill in Safari.
No Home button
Since there will be no 'Home' button on iPhone X, you can unlock your phone by swiping up on the lock screen. With the same movement from applications, you can go to the home screen. As for the control center, you can open it by swiping down from the status bar on the right side.
To switch between applications, you will need to scroll through them at the bottom of the screen.
iPhone X will have a dual camera, but it will now be vertically positioned. The 12MP camera contains a new color filter and improved pixels. The main lens supports f / 1.8 aperture and an f / 2.4 telephoto lens and 2x optical zoom. The secondary camera will take better pictures in poorly lit conditions. In addition, the camera is complemented by a Quad-LED True Tone flash.
With a new processor iPhone, the X can record 4K video at 60fps, making it the first smartphone in the world to do this. In addition, it will be possible to record video in Full HD with 240fps.
A new function Portrait Lighting has been added. This is an upgrade to portrait mode, with which you can apply lighting effects to your photos. Effects include Studio, Stage, Contour, Natural and Light Mono. Effects can be selected before shooting, as well as applied to finished photos.
Thanks to the TrueDepth system, the front 7MP camera can also take portraits and use Portrait Lighting mode.
Using the front camera and other sensors, users will be able to create animated emoji with their own facial expressions. The company called the feature Animoji. They can be shared with friends via iMessage.
iPhone X will run two hours longer than iPhone 7.
iPhone X will have NFC, Bluetooth 5.0, Apple W1 chip, LTE-A, wired charging connector and Qi wireless charging. Apple also presented AirPower – charging mat iPhone X (or iPhone 8), Apple Watch 3 or even AirPods in their new case.
AirPower will go on sale in 2018.
The phone can also be charged with third-party Qi devices.
iPhone X will go on sale November 3 for $ 999 and can be ordered on October 27. The phone will be available with 64 or 256GB of storage.
