Low heart rate notifications were only introduced in watchOS 5, released on September 17th. If you still have not installed the update, open the application Apple Watch on the linked iPhone and go to My watch → General → Software update. Feature supported on Apple Watch Series 1 and newer.

Low heart rate

Your heart rate should not be raised if you have not moved for several minutes. Likewise, it should not fall below a certain level, even if you are not active. Frequent fluctuations in heart rate may indicate health problems.

Usually, a low heart rate when resting and especially after waking up is a good sign, as you are not overexerting and your health is in good health. If your heart rate is low and active, your heart does not carry enough blood throughout the body. And this is a sign of something serious.

And now your Apple Watch Series 2 and newer can notice this.

Turn on low heart rate notifications

1) On the linked iPhone with iOS 12 open the application Apple Watch.

2) Select the My Watch tab.

3) Select the Pulse section from the list.

4) Press Reduced heart rate, and then select the number of beats per minute.

The following options are available:

  • Off
  • 40 beats per minute
  • 45 beats per minute
  • 50 beats per minute

For most people, 40 beats per minute is the norm.

After that, your watch will analyze your heart rate in the background and notify you if it falls below the selected indicator.

In terms of increased heart rate, people without heart problems should choose to show between 100 and 120 beats per second, depending on age, physical condition, and poor habits.

Remember that Apple Watch is just a health care accessory, not medical equipment.

How to measure your pulse

You can measure your heart rate at any time using a special standard application or one of the third parties such as HeartWatch, Heart Monitor and Heart Analyzer. The Pulse app icon can even be added to the watch face. It can also be docked to the dock.

If you buy the Series 4, you can even take an ECG with your smartwatch and see if your heart rate is normal. This is a very handy feature for checking your heart condition.

Apple Watch use an optical heart rate sensor built into the back of the watch. It's designed to track your heart rate while exercising, but it also measures your heart rate throughout the day. The optical sensor supports recognition from 30 to 210 beats per second.
