Apple Watch 3 now support winter sports tracking

Apple finally allowed Apple Watch app developers to take advantage of skiing and snowboarding activity tracking capabilities. This feature was introduced in watchOS 4.2 in December, but until then, developers could not use it in apps.

This feature is already available in snoww, Slopes, Squaw Alpine, Snocru, Ski Tracks and a number of other applications. Using the new API, built-in GPS module and altimeter in Watch 3, it is now possible to track vertical descent, distance traveled, number of runs, average and maximum speed and calories burned.

Users can also send calories burned to the Activity app just like any other workout. Some apps (for example, Slopes and snoww) support Siri, so you can start tracking their activity with a voice command.
