The patent Apple talks about 'universal' AirPods with a user-friendly design

Another patent appeared on the network Apple. As usual, it does not mean that the technology will actually appear, but we can understand what the engineers and designers are working on Apple.

Apple - AirPods - test

However, some of the technologies mentioned in the patents are still being implemented. The last one talks about new features AirPods.

The first is a versatile design that allows both earbuds AirPods to fit in both ears, which is very comfortable. In this case, you would not have to worry about the left earphone being in the left ear. This is possible thanks to the biometric sensors in each earpiece. It also makes it easier to replace the earbud in case you run into problems with it.

Here is a small excerpt from the patent Apple:

This declaration applies to headphones with one or more biometric sensors. At least one biometric sensor will need to be attached to the ear for biometric measurements. The headphone housing will be symmetrical so that each earbud fits comfortably in either ear. With the help of sensors, the headphones will determine which ears they are in and adapt to it.

Biometric sensors work best when they are snug against the skin. The plastic casing of the current AirPods can get in the way. The patent talks about a different material. It is not known how this should all look as a result, but the design of the headphones would be very different from the current ones.

Apple - patent-universal AirPods

Recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that Apple will release AirPods with wireless charging in early 2019, and the headphones with the new design will not come out until 2020.

Universal headphones are what Apple is definitely interested in. According to sources, the company is working on new, over-the-ear universal earbuds that could be released in 2019.
