The Korean edition of the Electronic Times, citing an industry insider, reports that Apple will ditch the notch in the display for a next-gen release iPhone in 2019. Although the specs of the display have not been disclosed, the source claims the screen will 'cover the entire front panel of the new iPhone'.
To do this, Apple will have to move somewhere all the sensors and camera modules, which are now located just in this notch. The report says that Apple will continue to use Face ID, so all these sensors will definitely be – the only question is where and how they will be placed.
Considering that there is still a year and a half before the release of these models, we are unlikely to find out more details in the near future. However, several solutions exist. In particular, you can make several miniature holes for the sensors and place them behind the display. Thus, the entire screen area will be useful.
Note that this is an early leak and should be taken with sound skepticism. However, since its release iPhone, the X notch in the display looked like a temporary solution and an intermediate step before creating a real frameless.
